80 immigrants arrested over illegal entry into Ghana- Ghana Immigration Service

The Ghana Immigration Service command at the Bono East Region has reportedly arrested at least 80 immigrants suspected to be Togolese nationals over illegal entry into Ghana.

Confirming the news of the recent arrest, the Bono East Regional Immigration Commander Chief Superintendent Enoch Abrokwah Annor told journalists that the development is worrying considering the government’s fight against the spread of the pandemic in the country which has led to the closure of Ghana’s land and sea borders.

According to him, the Bono East regional capital, Techiman, has been identified as the main transit point for these illegal immigrants.

He, however, assured the general public that the Regional Command were on high alert and would ensure that all illegal immigrants are intercepted as part of arrangements to ensure the president’s directive on the ban against travelling by land as part of a measure against the spread of the COVID-19 virus is ensured.

Detailing the work done so far by his command, Superintendent Enoch revealed that between February and March this year, a total of 147 foreign nationals have been arrested by the Regional command.

Sixty-seven illegal immigrants, comprising 42 Nigeriens and 25 Togolese were arrested and repatriated in February alone.

He called on the general public to volunteer information if they suspect such illegal activities in their communities.
